Hiking Up to World’s End

Horton Plains National Park

Looking for hotels near Horton Plains? Experience one of the most popular places to visit in Nuwara Eliya with Araliya Resorts & Spas. A hike through this spectacular wilderness is a must-do for anyone who is vacationing in Sri Lanka’s misty hill country. From spectacular landscapes to unique wildlife sightings, the Horton Plains is full of exciting adventures and memories that are just waiting to be discovered.

There are two famous attractions waiting to be discovered here – the sheer drop that has been appropriately named the World’s End and the picturesque Baker’s Falls. The World’s End is perhaps the main reason so many tourists and travellers flock to this national park. Reaching it involves quite a challenging hike, but the reward waiting for you is worth it. The view you get from this cliffside is truly unprecedented – the mountains mists will often blanket the sprawling landscape for miles on end.

Baker’s Falls is another great site to visit while you’re here – it’s often touted as one of the most beautiful waterfalls you can find in Sri Lanka. There are lots of great photo opportunities to get in on here so do remember to bring a camera!

Finally, there’re the residents of the Horton Plains. You’ll find all kinds of wonderful wildlife here from giant squirrels to an array of endemic bird varieties. The sambar deer is a common sight here at the park, and most will even venture up to you in search of a free snack. Keep your eyes peeled along the underbrush though, the island’s top predator – the Sri Lankan leopard – also call this wilderness home.
