Surfing at Unawatuna

Having some of the best beaches found in Sri Lanka, Unawatuna is the perfect location to be at if you’re in the mood for some great surfing action. There’s plenty of surfing spots to choose from in Unawatuna and most them are just a quick drive away from our resort, the Araliya Beach Resort and Spa.

If you’re new to surfing in Unawatuna, consider sticking to the shallower ends of the coast to start with. Once you’ve got the hang of balancing yourself on the surfboard, try your luck on a few waves. You can always hire yourself a surf instructor to help you master the basics. The South Coast has a number of great surfing schools to choose from as well and many pro surfers here are more than willing to give you a few lessons for free. The deeper you go, the more challenging the waves get – be sure to get some experience under your belt first. That being said, nothing quite beats the feeling of conquering a monster wave, so don’t let up.
